Objectives
|
The goals of this exercise are for you to work with a partner and alternately play the roles of (a) a reporter doing a radio or TV interview and (b) an expert in the topics covered in labs 1 - 8. | ||

Background |
Role Play ExpertBy now you have acquired a great deal of expertise in the topics we have studied, and here is your chance to display it. A good reporter needs to have a deep knowledge of a subject in order to ask good, probing questions about it. An expert must be able to think on his or her feet and respond to such questions in a thoughtful, organized and comprehensible manner. | ||
Exercise 1 |
1. | You will work in pairs. Prior to this lab, you and your partner will choose two areas of particular interest to you. One of you will prepare to ask interesting and thought-provoking questions about one area, and to act as the expert in the other area. The other will take the complementary roles. | |
| 2. | You will find a quiet area and conduct your interviews while recording on an audiotape recorder or video recorder. After completing the first set, you may want to reverse roles and try again.

| 3. | You can review the taped program and assess your performances as reporter and expert. | ||
| 4. | Some taped programs may be shared with the class. | ||
