Character A has the best answer. A trait typically becomes more common if there is some advantage to organisms that have that trait. Answer C reflects a common idea among students that dominant alleles are somehow stronger. Answer B is irrelevant, and answer D brings up the erroneous, but very common, idea that mutations always have negative effects.
