Available to you at this site are the SemNet(c) 1.1 beta 14 knowledge
mapping software and user's guide, and various related files which are
used in the biology lessons. You can access these files from this page
or from the Knowledge Mapping Teachers' Guides (Section D) and the Lesson
SemNet pages (section G).
We have provided some exercises (in lesson 1.4) which can be used to
introduce learners to the SemNet software. These are the Kennedy Family
Net, and an exercise in which students construct their own family SemNet.
Each lesson uses SemNet in different ways.
Sections C and D of each lesson are knowledge mapping exercises and
the related teachers' guide. Most of the lessons are built around having
students use SemNet to create their own networks on the lesson topic.
Section H of each lesson provides a fully constructed SemNet on that
lesson's subject matter. This can be used by the teacher as a guide to
assessing student SemNets.
Section G of each lesson provides a version of the lesson SemNet for
student use from the WWW. Many of the concepts on the WWW SemNets contain
links to external web sites which contain illustrations of the concepts.
This Web version contains all of the lesson SemNet content, but the full
SemNet functionality is not available on the Web.
See the SemNet User Guide for more details about how to use the software.
The text is current in the User's Guide but some of the screen images are
outdated.
